HIP: Information and Inspiration, the Case for Historically Inverted Pedagogy on the Baroque Violin & Other Instruments

This discussion will use as its starting point Walter Reiter’s new book, “The Baroque Violin and Viola: A Fifty-Lesson Course” (Oxford University Press 2020). It will introduce us to how such a method is conceived, and parallel to this, how lessons can be structured to be as efficient and enriching as possible. Differences will be addressed in reference to historical and modern techniques and topics and will encompass instruments well beyond the baroque violin. The talk is open to all students.

Walter Reiter is currently Professor of Baroque Violin and Viola in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
